H&G Expo: Day 1

As should be expected, Day 1 of the Home & Garden Expo has been full of eager visitors lagging around on their window shopping… and getting in the way of a good photograph, lol. But that’s part of the fun. The good thing is the H&G Expo never lags as bad as other events. To not make blogging so difficult by including all available products (if I had the time I would, though), I’ll be choosing  five items each day. Today I pick up three houses, one garden center and one furniture store. Click on the name of the store to TP to the Expo.

Cheeky Pea

CP was still setting up when the Expo opened to the general public, but obviously the Gale Cottage is a very nice two-story house that may well fit anywhere. The one on the left, mustard colored, is CP’s item for RFL , so there you have a good reason to buy it. If you prefer another color choice, don’t worry, there are seven more to pick from.

I really like this Fairmont house. It has a clean look and a nice interior. Yet, it may require at least a mid-size parcel to fit well. The base is 30 x 40 sq.m. if I recall correctly.

Barnesworth Anubis

The Santa Barbara Bungalow is not barnesworth anubis RFL item, but it is currently on sale at an introductory price this week at the Expo. It’s easy to figure out the price will go up once the event is over, so if you really want the house –which is very nice, by the way– act now! BA’s RFL items are shown in this picture too: the beveled stone planters and the flagstone pavers.

Two Moon Gardens 1

I don’t know this store that much, having only seen their products on the marketplace, and never before inworld, but I like the way they arranged things on that long expo parcel. You should also take a look.

Second Spaces

Second Spaces

Second Spaces brought a dozen small things to the Expo (that’s this store specialty somehow), and all of them are really cute. Stools, tables, wall decorations, books, pots, racks… you can grab them all.

Yes, I said five and here I am with a sixth, but I had to praise MudHoney once again for having an excellent balance between donation displays and for profit items.

Home & Garden Expo 2013 Opens

Entertainment and Activities sim

And now you can go shopping! The H&G Expo opened its 11 sims today. There are 8 sims with houses, furniture, plants and everything else you may want or need to decorate your SL home; another pair of sims are dedicated to breedables, while the 11th is for shows and entertainment. I’ll try to post once per day during this event, to highly whatever I find worth of mention from each of the eight sims with home and garden stuff. I won’t cover breedables because I don’t particularly like them (hence I know nothing about them, except that they usually drive your neighbors mad), but if you’re a fan go take a look at both because these people have worked as much as the rest. You will find breedables in Breedables Fair 1 and Breedables Fair 2 sims. The American Cancer Society also has a sim nearby that you can visit whenever you wish [taxi].

Entertainment and Activities stageHarp in garden

This is not a fashion event, guys, so try not to bring too much primage with you, and lower your avatar rendering cost to a decent minimum. Most visitors will want a new house or a new set of furniture, not to drool over your looks. Don’t go AFK in any of the sims for too long (you should not, not even for a second) because you will be wasting system resources that someone else may put to good use. Hop to the Entertainment and Activities sim if you only want to hang out or have a chatter (there are several nice spots to pick from, see the pictures in this post, for example). And don’t forget to donate: You can do so by purchasing products on the Relay For Life vendors (every exhibitor has at least one, so sure you will find something to suit you) or pay whatever you wish to donation kiosks.

OceaniaI have randomized the sims, and posts will follow that order, starting with 2 and going down 8, 5, 7, 3, 1, 5, and 6 for the rest of the event. First post will come out later today (I hope), so stay tuned.

In a few hours… H&G Expo 2013

The 2013 Home & Garden Expo is about to begin. Starting today, you’ll have the chance to buy lots of goodies for your home or patio, while contributing to Relay for Life (RFL) of Second Life. Here you have a few, and only a few, shots of the exhibitions and their products, in no particular order.

Remember the best way to support RFL is buying from the RFL vendors. The money you spend in those items will go to the charity in full. Of course, be free (and generous) to buy from non-RFL vendors to support the time, investment, and creativity of all the great designers participating in this event. Without them, none of this Expo would have been possible.

MudHoney See in this picture, for example, part of MudHoney’s  display. There are two items in this shot: a beautiful bed (that I know many would want to own), which is the for profit item; next to it is the RFL vendor –the nightstand– prominently featured. I like the way MudHoney did it because its creator knows the bed will attract a lot of attention (and will probably sell pretty well), so she puts a huge RFL vendor next to it. Props for that, because not all other RFL vendors are so well balanced or strategically placed.

One last and very important thing: Support original content ONLY. This is a huge event, so surely it isn’t easy to control what dozens of exhibitors will bring to the show. But you, as an informed and responsible shopper, know how to distinguish what’s original from what’s not.

The 6th Annual Home & Garden Expo starts today at noon PST.
