Looking the Second Life metaverse through the eyes of reality

(Virtual) Smoke awareness

In an age when every pack of cigarettes sold in most places of the world come with the equivalent of the US Surgeon General warning message stating the health risks involved in smoking, a small cylindrical prim with some texture and particle effect has become (once again) a glamorous symbol in virtual lands. Pose vendors, the so-called (that’s to say, self appointed) “prim set” top models and virtual image designers are building up another illusion of confusion in a world that can’t feel the effects of such nonsense, but that have the potential of causing a psychological reaction that transcends dimensions. Yes, pop corn may be hazardous to your health too, but have you seen someone posing with a pop between his/her lips and being considered cool? What’s so sexy in a mini-chimney: the ash, the smoke, the stinky odor, or the ochre tarnish? What’s the cool message these avies want to communicate? Are they conscious or unconscious of the picture they are transmitting? Can someone help me understand what’s so fucking cool about a cigarette?

leave the smokers alone at least in our virtual world..we dun smell here..we dun cause smoke or any other harmful stuff for the SL-air..sooo? in real, its forbidden in many countries smoking at bars-cafes-restaurants-streets including mine(public places you cant smoke and during this year it will be forbidden to smoke at the streets or any open place)..?’m not a very active smokers: ? dun smoke at home,? dun smoke in cars ..okay when ? smoke,? do smoke a lot but wtf?..its not smokers producing cigarettes.we buy and smoke but imo if any restrictions shud be done, its not ONLY the smokers.

Dear Mr(s). Anonymous, Nice name, to begin with. Be aware that my post concerned smoking as a fashion symbol or statement (imo, that’s what those fashion photos express). What people do in private it’s up to each of you. If you want to smoke, go ahead, and light the cig. Yet, there are some topics use as advertisement; the purpose of those is to “push” people to do or acquire something. When it is depicted as cool, the psychological effect is stronger. Smoking is not the healthiest activity of all, and from my point of view it’s worst for the non-smoker that has to live among smokers. Your explanation of “Since someone makes cigs, then we smoke them” is not that convincing. What about this? “Since someone builds guns, then we kill whoever we want?”

me again and ? forgot to write my name before ..sorry and about the thing ? said/you linked it with guns: ? dont smoke cos someone produces it ( and ? reread what ? wrote; now pretty sure ? never said so or meant it that way)..its my choice to smoke or not..so noone wud kill anyone cos someone produces guns..all is in choice in life..thats one of the things which make us ‘human’ or maybe at some situation ‘ a better human’ with ‘principles’

If I knew it was you, I would have been more harsh 👿 But, then again, my concern is depicting smoking as glamorous, not a critic to the individual that wants/chooses to smoke. To each his/her choosing.

I wonder… and what is the fucking cool to make holes in the body or that spucky hair? that is for sure more dangerous for the health to someone close enougth… besides the punch I receive in my eyes.
