Looking the Second Life metaverse through the eyes of reality

RFL Weekend 2011: The Year of G.o.D.

I already completed my first round of Relay for Life Weekend 2011. This is one of the very few SL events I honestly await every year because team participants really put a great effort into organizing this celebration of hope and life, putting into perspective the great things SL brings to virtual environments as a creative platform. This year, the event runs July 16-17, under the motto Seasons of Hope. As such, the track, which extends along almost 40 sim, is subdivided into the four seasons. Within each zone, teams give expression to whatever they imagine this huge installation is all about, be it in memory of the lives of those this disease has taken from the real world,  of the loved ones fighting against it, or even providing information and statistics to passersby of what cancer means at present. The starting point is at the Relay for Life Welcome Center [slurl], but you can actually TP to any location you wish to set foot in.

For what I can say after my first counter-clock walk, my favorite spot is Garden of Dreams, which team is lead by Kayle Matzerath. G.o.D.’s offering for RFL –but also in his G.O.D. sims– radiate a distinct dreamy look and feel that simply cause splendor. Certainly I speak from the landscapist’s perspective, but I know a lot of people will agree with me in picking this build as their favorite this year.

Obviously there’s more to it than these few pictures can attest, but I don’t want to spoil your visit. Be sure to look everything and everywhere, or you could miss a few special places as the one shown below.

…and Camp Hope

Another nice spot I really liked very much is Car Wash’s Camp Hope. This modest corner might not attract as much attention as some other places, but from my point of view it rightfully demonstrate that you don’t have to build exuberantly to stand out. To TP to Camp Hope, follow this [slurl].
