Looking the Second Life metaverse through the eyes of reality

H&G Expo Day 3 and some words

Day 3 at the H&G Expo have me visiting sim #7. For some reason I’ve been experiencing a few problems while moving from sim to sim, and I don’t think it’s due to lag. Sim crossings are ok, but teleporting from one place to another is sometimes impossible. And it isn’t because there are a lot of people around either. Maybe it’s my computer trying hard to process all that information while I try to take some snapshots for the blog. Who knows, it could be anything. The expo has been relatively empty too, if we compare it to other fairs and events, but it’s always been like that. Not everybody has a parcel and a house in need of decoration, and those that do have one may not want to change a thing.

Apparently, there’s also a boycott of some sort on grounds of IP infringement on the part of some exhibitors and how RFL of SL organizers, the American Cancer Society (ACS), or whoever is responsible for this event has handled the situation. How widespread is this boycott and how it is actually affecting this event, I don’t know. IP violation is a problem, and a crime when it gets to court. Cancer is a bigger problem, and a cause just enough to fight on all fronts. I don’t support IP infringement, I have expressed it more than once, but I do support the wishes and hopes of all the people battling this bitch day and night. The most heartbreaking thing in this fucking world is seeing how life escapes from those with the greatest desire to live, as they slowly and painfully succumb to this evil whore. It is also the worst and most terrible agony their loved ones have to confront when remedies avail to nothing and it gets to the point of no return. Have you been with your father, your mother, your lover, your child to the doctor’s office just to hear as the words “nothing,” “else,” and “do” collude with other syllables to pierce your heart a thousand times? That’s the day when you have to hold on to something not to fall, and fall, and fall, because if you fail and hit the bottom faith will return no more. I know it pretty well.

Neither I am stopping by or shopping in stores with questionable content, be it here or anywhere, nor I am going to support any boycott to this H&G Expo. On the contrary: the least I can do is to keep roaming around and shooting here and there so I can keep blogging. The key to this event’s success is buying what designers are offering on their RFL vendors. If you want to make a difference, inform those with the IP rights of anything you think that might be wrongly used, and then go back to the fair, and pick up something, even the smallest of things, from one of those white and purple vendors properly identified as RLF 2013. Then you would have done a good deed two ways.

And after all that mumble, here are my picks for today.

LeeZu

LeeZu’s Studio Mesh House is a modern beauty. The only problem with it is that it’s too primy for me, at 178 LI. I don’t know if resizing –as I usually have to do– will make a significant difference because sure it won’t go down into the 40s or 50s.

what next

what next

what next has something nice to offer to its loyal customers and whoever stumbles upon its platform. Besides the cute Garden Cafe Caravan previously available at The Garden event a few weeks ago, there is a series of coffee tables scattered around in difference shades. The blue and the light green ones, identical to the white one pictured above, are what next RFL items.

bauwerk

22769 bauwerk

The Voronoi House from 22769 bauwerk is an enchanting dwelling with an industrial appeal. It will also look superb as a small shop or office… I’d actually say it’s a multipurpose building and leave it at that. It’s quite charming in its own way, and will do you no harm. This store’s RFL item have sold a single unit (last time I checked), so no one has liked how blocky they are (including me), but te Magic Surfer Bus seems to be doing quite well, judging by the number of times it has popped up in blog posts since day 1. Check Carthalis Rossini’s latest post, Voronoi, to take an in-depth look at this house.

Petals on the Wind

Petals on the Wind

There’s a large portion on this sim dedicated to a nice garden area adorned with Petals on the Wind products (aye, that’s the store’s name). It seems the area goes by the name of Gardens of Gentle Decay, not a very romantic one, but somehow poetic, somewhat like “Garden of Earthly Delights”, but without the fantastic imagery. There’s also an area reserved for a designer that has yet to show up (if ever), but if I was one of the event organizers I would have taken that ugly white block from that plot and reassigned the space to Petals on the Wind to expand that wonderful garden area.

Prime

This little greenhouse here may not be the coziest you’ve ever seen, but at 5 LI there’s not much reason to complain, I say. The structure says it’s modifiable, so maybe it’s a matter of some new paint. As for their RFL items, I see more use for the Audrey Daybed, though pose enthusiasts may go for the Bouy with sea foam, as it’s more fashionable for the summer.
